US Congress bill seeks to end Israeli UN Probe

A bill forwarded by Republican legislators in the United States Congress could put an end to the United Nations’ Commission of Inquiry targeting Israel, by revoking funding for the commission.

The same bill was put forward a year ago but failed after meeting with opposition from Democrats. With a new U.S. Congress sworn in on Jan. 7, legislators have another opportunity to combat the anti-Israel positions of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The council has singled out Israel from other nations, for its "alleged human rights abuses" against Palestinians, while overlooking Palestinian acts of terror that target Israel.

At least one member of the UNHRC has publicly made flagrantly anti-Semitic comments with no consequences.

The bill, submitted by U.S. Representative Greg Steube, R-Fla., has a good chance of passing, with 17 Republican members of Congress currently supporting it.
