UN official denies Hamas' atrocities were 'antisemitic massacre,' rather 'response to Israel’s oppression'

UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement that the Oct. 7 massacre of 1,200 mostly Israeli Jews constituted “the largest antisemitic massacre of our century.”

Instead, Albanese appeared to justify the mass slaughter of Israeli women, children and elderly as a “response to Israel’s oppression.”

“The ‘greatest antisemitic massacre of our century’? No, Mr. @EmmanuelMacron. The victims of 7/10 were not killed because of their Judaism, but in response to Israel’s oppression. France & the international community did nothing to prevent it. My respects to the victims,” the UN official wrote on 𝕏.

Hamas’ charter openly calls for the destruction of the Jewish state and all Jews around the world.

The French Foreign Ministry quickly blasted Albanese for her inflammatory statements, emphasizing that “the October 7 massacre is the largest antisemitic massacre of the 21st century. Disputing it is an error. Seeming to justify it, by including the name of the United Nations, is a disgrace.”

“These comments are all the more scandalous since the fight against antisemitism and all forms of racism are at the heart of the founding of the UN,” the French foreign ministry added.

Israeli government spokesperson Eylon Levy praised the French government for condemning Albanese comments to defend Hamas' invasion and brutal attack on Israel's southern border communities.

“Bravo, France, for calling out this awful UN official for denying the intensely antisemitic motivations of the Hamas October 7 Massacre and seemingly justifying it as a ‘response to Israeli oppression,’” Levy stated.

Albanese has a history of hostile statements towards the Jewish nation and its people, and has systematically criticized Israel’s right to defend itself and even exist in the Middle East.

In December 2022, Albanese was forced to distance herself from past antisemitic statements, including the antisemitic trope that the “Jewish Lobby” runs America.

At the time, the Israeli Foreign Ministry blasted Albanese as part of a wider institutionalized anti-Jewish bigotry within the UN.

“Comments made by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese that surfaced today are yet another stain on the credibility of this body and yet another example of the impunity that exists today regarding antisemitism and antisemitic comments made by UN officials,” Israel's Foreign Ministry stated.

In February 2023, 18 American Congress members demanded the removal of Albanese, due to her systematic hostility towards Israel.

“For an official tasked with serving as an independent, neutral and expert voice on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, her inexcusable silence against terrorism targeting Israelis, and her outrageous and prejudicial remarks, clearly reflect the irredeemable bias of her mandate,” the Members of Congress stated at the time.

“We strongly urge you to call for severing all ties with Ms. Albanese, help disband the Commission of Inquiry into Israel and recommit to a United Nations system free from antisemitic and anti-Israel bias.”

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is currently at the center of a scandal because of its close ties with the Iranian-backed terror organization, Hamas. Several donor nations, including the United States, suspended aid to UNRWA in late January after it was revealed at least 12 of its workers had participated in the Oct. 7 massacres, while other staff members praised the brutal terror attack.

On Sunday, the Israeli military unveiled a top-secret Hamas intelligence center, complete with weapons and computer systems, below the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City.
