Syria reports Israeli airstrike on Aleppo airport, runway damaged
The Syrian Defense Ministry reported an Israeli airstrike on the Aleppo International Airport at around 4:30 a.m. this morning.
The airstrike was reportedly intended to prevent the transfer of Iranian weapons to militant groups through Syria.
According to the reports, the runway was damaged in the strike, and the airport has been temporarily closed.
The attack is the fourth Israeli strike on Syria in the last month. The previous attack was about one week ago when Israel struck targets near Damascus.
Israel regularly targets Iranian elements within Syria as part of a policy to prevent a buildup of Iran-backed forces near its border.
