Pro-Palestinian activists cheer Hamas in Western cities
In several capitals around the world, Islamist supporters and anti-Israel activists were celebrating the heinous Hamas attack against Israel on Saturday.
In London, the Metropolitan police increased patrols, as “videos emerged of what appears to be people celebrating the Hamas attack on Israel,” according to BBC News.
United Kingdom Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she expects the police to “use the full force of the law” against any show of support for Hamas while the Met police said it would be present to “reassure communities.”
“Yesterday I spoke with CST – UK [Community Security Trust] to ensure the Government is doing everything necessary for the protection of our Jewish communities,” Braverman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“There must be zero tolerance for anti-semitism or glorification of terrorism on the streets of Britain. I expect the police to use the full force of the law against displays of support for Hamas, other proscribed terrorist groups or attempts to intimidate British Jews.”
In Berlin, the police posted photos on social media showing “people celebrating the attacks on Israel by passing out pastries” on Sonnenallee, the main avenue in the city's Neukoelln district.
In his comments made to Welt television, Martin Hikel, the mayor, condemned the “horrible glorification of a terrible war.”
Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said that the authorities were stepping up security.
“In Berlin, police protection has been immediately stepped up,” Faeser said. “The federal government and the regions are closely coordinating their actions.”
In addition, Germany's authorities were closely watching “potential supporters of Hamas in the Islamist sphere,” she added.
In Greece, footage reportedly showed migrants, many of them from Syria and Iraq, in a closed arrivals camp on the eastern Aegean island of Samos, cheering for Hamas, according to the Telegraph.
In the United States, various Islamists and other groups praised the Hamas attacks and were preparing demonstrations. The U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations, an umbrella group, completely ignored Israeli victims of the unprovoked terrorist attacks, stating: “The recent unprovoked and continuous attacks by Israel on Palestinian towns, cities, and refugee camps have resulted in tragic loss of Palestinian lives. We condemn Israel’s targeted and indiscriminate killing of civilians, including innocent children, women, and the elderly.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said it supported “the Palestinian people’s right to freedom,” and squarely blamed Israel and the U.S. for the attacks without mentioning the Hamas terror organization's activities.
According to the Times of Israel, several anti-Israeli groups were planning demonstrations in New York on Sunday and on Monday in Times Square and in front of the Israeli Consulate “to defend the heroic Palestinian resistance.”
Overall, anti-Israel protests were proclaimed in almost 20 other cities in the U.S., Canada and Europe, including at Israeli consulates and embassies in San Francisco, Atlanta and London.
On Saturday, anti-Israel activists in New York City’s Grand Central Station carried signs with the text, “Resistance is justified.”
Also on Saturday, Islamists in Toronto celebrated Hamas with the chants “Free Palestine.”
