Ivy League university course will teach students that Israeli soldiers harvest organs of Palestinians
Some critics say the Princeton course provides 'zero educational value'
The prestigious American Ivy League school, Princeton University, will be teaching students that Israeli soldiers harvest Palestinian organs in one of its upcoming semester fall classes: “Decolonizing Trauma Studies from the Global South."
The class syllabus describes that Israel is “supplementing its right to kill with the right to maim," and is based on a book written by Graduate Director of Women's and Gender Studies, Prof. Jsbir Puar of Rutgers University in New Jersey.
The book, “The Healing Humanities: The Right to Maim” was published six years ago and caused controversy at the time, however, Princeton University’s Near Eastern Studies Department faculty recently approved the syllabus.
Puar reportedly also accuses Israel and the Israel Defense Forces of harvesting Palestinian organs for “scientific research.”
According to the non-partisan organization StopAntisemitism, Puar “has a history of falsely accusing Israel of Human Rights violations” and was featured by the organization as “antisemite of the week” in November 2020.
“In 2016, Puar claimed that Israel harvests the organs of non-Jews and assassinates Palestinian teenagers. She also accused Israel of denying Palestinians resources to stunt their growth,” noted StopAntisemitism, based in the U.S.
The watchdog group posted on social media that the Princeton course will de facto be teaching an old antisemitic blood libel.
"Horrifying antisemitic blood libel being taught at Princeton University this fall - assistant professor Satyel Larson is offering a course that includes a book brimming with deceitful falsehoods and abundant with propagandistic content by known antisemite Jasbir Puar,” read the tweet.
“Puar's book, 'The Right To Maim,’ maliciously claims Israel kills Palestinians in order to steal/harvest their organs,” the statement added.
Some academics have reportedly said the course would provide “zero educational value.”
