Israeli teen nabs gold at European Artistic Gymnastics Championships
Daria Atmanov says Israeli gold medalist Linoy Ashram is her role model.
Israel’s Daria Atmanov, 16, won a gold medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tel Aviv over the weekend.
Atmanov, from Rishon LeTzion, trains with Ayelet Sussman, the same coach that helped Linoy Ashram earn her gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year.

In an interview with Israel’s Sport 1 radio, Atmanov explained that she started training in rhythmic gymnastics when she was seven years old because, “I was very flexible.”
The daughter of parents who immigrated from Uzbekistan, Atmanov trained under Ashram and said she sees her as a role model. When Ashram won the gold, “Linoy made me work harder because I knew there was room to aspire.”
Though she said she is trying to not get ahead of herself by thinking about the next Olympics, “an Olympic gold medal is every athlete’s dream,” she told Sport 1.
The Israeli team also won a gold medal in the group competition over the weekend. Six young women competed in that competition, beating out Italy (silver) and Azerbaijan (bronze).
The 2022 Group all-around Champions are... Israel! 🇮🇱🤩🏆
