Dichter refused offer to replace Gallant as defense minister
Israeli Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Avi Dichter refused an offer to replace fellow Likud party member Yoav Gallant as defense minister, he told Channel 12 news in a Thursday evening interview.
After Gallant was fired in March because of his public statements calling to freeze the judicial reform, Dichter – who served as director of Israel's Internal Security Agency, Shin Bet – said he was offered to become defense minister in his stead.
"I only needed to say one word to become defense minister: 'Yes,'" Dichter revealed.
Dichter refused, however, and denied reports that he only supported Netanyahu's government reform plans so he would have a shot at becoming defense minister.
