Israeli defense minister says Iran has enriched enough material for five nuclear bombs
Gallant also accuses Iran of weapons trafficking in Syria
While on a visit to Greece, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant revealed the significant progress made in Iran's nuclear program and said that Tehran is not satisfied by just one nuclear bomb.
"Make no mistake – Iran will not be satisfied by a single nuclear bomb. So far, Iran has gained material enriched to 20% and 60% for five nuclear bombs," he said.
Gallant warned Iran that "enrichment to 90% would be a grave mistake on Iran’s part.”
The consequences of Iran’s behavior would harm the Middle East, he added.
“Israel will use all means at its disposal to prevent a nuclear Iran, and the same is expected from the international community," Gallant stated.
According to the defense minister, flights originating from the Islamic regime have been carrying combat equipment into Syria every week.
“Over the past six months, Iran has sent aircraft to Syria on a weekly basis, delivering weapons to be used for terrorism,” Gallant affirmed.
"We will not allow Iran to establish military power in Syria, or to build a highway for the delivery of advanced weapons to Lebanon," he warned.
Gallant arrived in Greece on Thursday morning on an official visit to meet with his Greek counterpart, Minister of Defense Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos at the Hellenic Ministry of Defense.
The defense minister was greeted in a festive ceremony upon arrival, after which a series of discussions were held. Following the dialogue, both ministers delivered statements to the press.
In his speech, Gallant praised the ties between Israel and Greece, highlighting the recently thwarted terror attack in Greece as a result of cooperation between Israel's Mossad intelligence agency and Greek intelligence.
“Intelligence cooperation between Israel and Greece received public attention last month, with the arrest of two terrorists sent by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to attack Israeli targets in Greece. This is not the only attack that was prevented. In fact, Iran has launched a global terror campaign, under the direct command of its leader,” Gallant said.
He also addressed the recent rocket attacks in Israel’s south.
“This week, Palestinian terror organizations have tried to challenge Israel. They are launching rockets at innocent civilians. My message to them: Do not misjudge the strength, and unity of our nation,“ he stated.
Upon leaving Greece, Gallant will continue to Cyprus.
