Israel Defense Forces call up 2 reserve brigades for Gaza ground operations
Israel Defense Forces ordered the call-up of two reserve brigades “for the operational missions in the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli military stated on Sunday evening.
“Their recruitment will allow the continuation of the effort and readiness to defend the State of Israel and maintain the security of the residents,” the statement read.
After Israel withdrew most of its soldiers from the Gaza Strip last week, forces of the IDF’s 162nd Division began operating on the outskirts of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza for the past several days in "precise operations against terrorist operatives and infrastructure," according to the IDF.
Despite international objections, Israeli officials have repeatedly vowed that the IDF would carry out a ground incursion into the town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, the last major stronghold of the Hamas terror organization in the coastal enclave.
