Egypt to allow wounded Palestinians, foreign nationals to leave Gaza Strip through Rafah crossing
Egypt on Wednesday agreed to open the Rafah border crossing to allow foreign nationals and wounded Palestinians to exit the Gaza Strip and be treated in Egyptian hospitals, Israeli media reported.
The agreement to allow foreign nationals, reportedly about 500 Americans, to exit the Gaza Strip was negotiated with the help of Qatar, according to Reuters.
Egyptian medical teams have agreed to receive wounded Palestinians and determine which hospitals they will be transferred to. Egypt also reportedly plans to open a field hospital in near the Egypt-Gaza border in Rafah.
Israel’s National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi on Tuesday said that several countries also agreed to send hospital ships to dock off on the Gaza coast, which Israel has designated a humanitarian safe zone.
