Despite riots at Gaza border, Israel opens Erez Crossing to Palestinian workers
The coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories announced on Wednesday night that Palestinian workers would be allowed to use the Erez crossing to enter Israel for work.
The coordinator said that the government would continue with its previous plan of closing the crossing this Friday, the first day of the Sukkot holiday.
Over the past few weeks, Palestinians from Gaza have rioted and engaged in hostile activities at the border, including launching incendiary balloons, which have caused several fires in agricultural areas, shooting at Israel Defense Forces patrolling the border, throwing improvised explosive devices at soldiers, using IEDs in attempts to breach the border fence and attempting to cross into Israeli territory.
In response, Israel struck several Hamas sites over the last week in addition to temporarily closing the Erez Crossing.
