Avigdor Liberman says he would join emergency national government if Hamas is eliminated
Following a statement issued by opposition leader Yair Lapid on Saturday evening that he would be willing to join Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a “professional, limited emergency government,” Avigdor Liberman of the Yisrael Beytenu, announced his willingness to join as well.
The only condition, he said, would be that the emergency government agrees to “eliminate the Hamas terrorist organization.”
“If the prime minister, defense minister and chief of staff stand in front of the cameras and announce to the people of Israel that the government has decided to eliminate the Hamas terrorist organization and all the terror leaders and will not settle for anything less, I will join a national emergency government without any conditions,” Liberman said.
“I understand that we have additional challenges in the north vis-à-vis Hezbollah, hostages inside the Gaza Strip, an international community and many other challenges. We will know how to deal with everything at the same time. But the order of priorities must be clear – first of all, the elimination of Hamas and the heads of Hamas.”
Netanyahu has not yet accepted Lapid’s offer to form an emergency unity government.
