WATCH: Gazans reveal cynical use of human shields by Hamas in hospitals, family homes
The IDF publishes astonishing footage showing Gazans admitting being used by terrorists
As the Israeli army and security services continue to interrogate Gazans who have been arrested during the war in the Gaza Strip, the suspects have revealed astonishing facts about the Hamas terror organization and its widespread use of human shields.
In footage taken during the interrogation by soldiers of the IDF's Military Intelligence Directorate Unit 504, a former Hamas member detailed how the terror group's forces left their underground positions in the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to hide among the civilians on the upper floors.
“I felt that we (the civilians) are human shields, why should we (civilians) defend them (Hamas)?” said Zuhdi Ali Zahadi Shahi.
At first, he wanted to flee south on the humanitarian corridor created by the IDF, Shahi said, but he was stopped by Hamas operatives who sent him back into the thick of the fighting.
Later Shahi got stuck at Shifa Hospital and sheltered there with other civilians who fled from the battle zone.
The hospital’s lower floors and tunnels underneath it served as fighting positions and headquarters for Hamas terrorists.
“As soon as the (Hamas) operatives who lived in the basement heard that the (Israeli) army had arrived (at the hospital), they went up to our floor and sat amongst us,” Shahi told the interrogator.
“Yes, they sat (with the civilians),” he stressed.
When asked how he can tell someone is a Hamas operative, Shahi explained that they usually dress in civilian clothing: “You could see it on him. And because he told me, ‘wherever I go, I can enter’.”
The same man later threatened to “deal with him” after the war for questioning why the terrorists were sitting among the civilians and endangering them.
In another video published by the IDF, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) member told the interrogator that when he left his home with his family to seek shelter in a school, a Hamas squad took over his home and turned it into a military position.
“A sniper sat on my window, the boy said that there were more than 20 Hamas operatives in the apartment and that their weapons were thrown on the floor. They entered the apartment without any permission from me,” Muhammad Darwish Imara said.
Imara also told the story of how his cousin Musa used his position as a Hamas member to steal a plot of land from him to use as a rocket launch site.
“He is active in Hamas; once he placed artillery in the area and wanted to shoot it from the plot. I went to fight with him because he wanted to shoot rockets from there. I have children at home and my uncle, my neighbor is sitting in his apartment. I said to Musa, ‘How come you come to shoot from us? You could hit kids with the rockets.’ He said that this is his land and that it is nobody’s business.”
In another instance, Imara said a Hamas operative shot the father of a family in the foot for complaining that Hamas had planted a booby trap next to his apartment.
