Transcript [00:00] Hello, All Israel News viewers. I'm here [00:02] [music] at Mount Saba, a super super [00:05] special place that you can only get to [00:07] by like a jeep or by a 4x4. This [music] [00:10] is an ancient fifth century monastery. [00:12] Let's talk about this place. This [00:14] [music] was built 1,500 [00:16] years ago. The name of this monastery [00:18] comes [music] from Sabah, St. Sabah, and [00:21] he was considered a figure of holiness [00:24] and an example for many [music] people. [00:26] and his body is actually uh preserved [00:29] and people can visit him and sort of pay [00:32] their respects uh to this saint. Every [00:34] day there's a monk that actually goes [00:36] down these stairs [music] and they go to [00:38] Mar Saba's grave. His whole role in this [00:42] place is to go and to light candles [00:43] there. [music] And he had a great effect [00:46] uh on people in this area to you know [00:49] live that lifestyle of [music] [00:50] separating yourself completely. As of [00:52] now, as of today, there are about 21 [00:55] [music] monks that live here uh in this [00:57] monastery and they have no internet [00:59] inside and they live a very very [music] [01:01] simple life of prayer. You can see this [01:04] person is praying down there. Uh it's [01:06] very very unique. It's not a lifestyle [01:08] that fits everyone. But uh all 20 of [01:11] them [music] run this place together and [01:13] they continue to make it a special [01:16] environment. [music] They don't eat meat [01:17] and they don't eat apples. Why do they [01:20] not eat apples? because it's uh [01:22] supposedly uh what Adam and Eve ate when [01:25] they [music] sort of fell into sin. [01:27] Women are actually not allowed inside uh [01:30] the monastery. It's only for men and [01:32] it's been this way for a [music] very [01:34] very long time. But you're welcome to [01:36] come around and walk around, go down the [01:39] valley. So when I look up Mount Saba, [01:42] you can see that it feels like it's [01:44] built sort of like carved inside [music] [01:46] the mountain. [01:48] And they have different, you know, [01:50] buildings, different levels. People [01:51] sleep inside the monastery. [01:54] Um, and then they will go sort of, you [01:56] can see those little trails over there. [01:59] They go in those little trails and they [02:01] they'll find caves. So, one of those [02:02] caves, for example, is like over there. [02:05] You can go inside. You [music] can even [02:07] sleep inside if you want. But many [02:10] people when they come from abroad, they [02:12] choose [music] to sleep inside uh the [02:14] safety of the monastery. [02:16] And [music] you can see that it's um [02:18] it's sort of stood the test of time. [02:21] This place when you look at it, it [02:23] invites you into that. Uh the desert is [02:25] so unique in that sense. And this [02:27] monastery is literally built for that [02:30] kind of solitude. And it's just [02:33] breathtaking, [music] breathtaking views [02:34] from here. Below us is valley is the [02:37] valley of Kdon, Nakdon, and it goes uh [02:40] from the Jerusalem area all the way to [02:42] here. [02:43] >> [music] [02:43] >> And uh during the winter time, the water [02:46] goes right down in the middle of the [02:48] valley. But as you can see, in the [02:50] meantime, of course, we're here in the [02:52] desert. And so, for [music] the most [02:53] part, this place uh is dry. But when you [02:56] see that water, it's something very [02:58] [music] special. I think at least maybe [03:01] once a year or twice a year they [03:02] actually uh people come to this side of [03:05] the mountain just on the other side of [03:07] Mount Saba and they light the whole [03:09] thing up with sort of lights [music] and [03:11] candles and it's a very very unique [03:13] experience but you have to come here [03:15] with a tour guide. You can't go alone. [03:18] Okay guys, I'm going to say goodbye to [03:20] Marsaba and we're going to continue. [03:22] [music] Amazing. [03:24] So now I went all the way [music] from [03:27] Mosaba to the Dead Sea to see the bloom [03:32] of all these flowers in the desert. [03:34] Let's go check it out. So I think I [03:37] found it. I'm going to go down as close [03:41] as I can cuz I feel like it could be [03:46] could be this. But you can already see [03:49] all these flowers [03:52] that are bloom. [03:55] But this is definitely the season where [03:58] everything sort of comes to life in this [04:01] area of the Dead Sea. [04:05] Wow, guys. This is really, really [04:08] beautiful. So, I wish [music] that I [04:09] would have come here like an hour [04:11] earlier when the sun is like really [04:13] shining on all of the flowers, but [04:15] nonetheless, I mean, it's really just so [04:20] beautiful to see [music] all these [04:22] purple flowers just, you know, lining [04:24] up. We're going to go down to the water. [04:27] You're going to see it from there. [04:30] We have made it to the end of our [04:32] journey at the Dead Sea where everything [04:35] [music] is calm and quiet just as it was [04:37] in Malaba. And uh you can just see the [04:40] beauty of the uh of Jordan behind us. [04:44] Thank you guys so much for watching.
