Druze residents in Golan villages, historically loyal to the Syrian regime, are now joining Israeli local defense units and undergoing organized military training. This unprecedented shift represents a dramatic transformation in community allegiances driven by regional instability and the desire to protect their homes.

Recent traumatic events including massacres in Syria and security breaches on October 7th have convinced Druze residents that their safety depends on Israel. Despite initial resistance within some families, community members have come to recognize the necessity of armed defense and the legitimacy of their military service.

The Druze trainees, ranging from professionals to farmers aged 26-46, complete weeks of military instruction including counterterrorism training and visits to the Knesset. With no dropouts and high motivation, these newly trained soldiers represent a significant integration of the Druze community into Israeli security structures with broader aspirations for future military opportunities.
