Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar to submit affidavit against gov't to High Court, confirm resignation date

Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, head of Israel’s internal security agency, is expected to submit a highly significant affidavit to the High Court of Justice today (Sunday), as part of petitions filed against his dismissal. In the affidavit, he is also expected to indicate the date of his impending resignation, as reported last night on "Weekend News" on Kan 11.
In the affidavit, Bar is expected to expand upon and support his claims against the government, including the assertion that the dismissal process began after he refused to provide Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a security assessment that would help him avoid continuous testimony in his trial.
The judges have allowed Bar to submit a classified affidavit to provide additional details on matters such as the investigation into the "Qatargate" affair and his claim that the government demanded he use the agency’s powers against certain citizens who took part in protests against it.
Netanyahu may submit his own affidavit by Thursday, but it is currently unclear whether he will do so. This also depends on Bar’s announcement regarding his resignation date.
The report also stated that despite the judges' call for both sides to engage in dialogue, there has been no real communication or agreement on the matter.
