Demonstrators in Brussels, Belgium called for Hezbollah Sec.-Gen. Hassan Nasrallah to “hit Tel Aviv.”

Israeli Ambassador to Belgium Idit Rosenzweig-Abu posted clips on social media on Thursday showing pro-Hamas and pro-Hezbollah groups calling for Israel to be attacked.

“Watch, yesterday here in Brussels, place Luxembourg,” she wrote on 𝕏. “Hassan (Nasrallah) hit, hit Tel Aviv, Please Sir, in the name of Allah” – “Hamas we are here for you.”

The demonstration was organized by a group called “Samidoun,” which has been active in the anti-Israel protests on American college campuses.

According to an NGO monitor, Israel’s Ministry of Defense designated Samidoun a terrorist organization and “a subsidiary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)” in 2021.

Samidoun was founded by “members of the PFLP in 2012,” and Khaled Barakat, identified by the PFLP as coordinator of Samidoun, “is involved with establishing militant cells and motivating terrorist activity in Judea & Samaria and abroad.”

PFLP is a terrorist organization and designated as such by Israel, the United States, Canada and the European Union. Members of the PFLP also took part in the Oct. 7 massacre, led by the Hamas terrorist organization.

According to Samidoun, the organization “seeks to achieve justice for Palestinian prisoners through events, activities, resources, delegations, research and information-sharing, as well as building bridges with the prisoners’ movement in Palestine.”

The group is against the Palestinian Authority (PA) and opposes negotiating with Israel. Samidoun has accused the United Arab Emirates of betraying the Palestinian cause by making peace with Israel, advocating for a Palestinian state and calling for the destruction of Israel.

The leader of Samidoun was deported from Germany and now lives in Canada, but the head of the European branch, Mohammad Khatib, resides in Brussels. A few months ago, Belgium's Ministry of Interior announced plans to deport Khatib but that has yet to materialize.

Samidoun regularly organizes pro-Hamas protests at university campuses in Belgium that become violent and has also held a webinar with a Hamas spokesperson. According to Ynet News, “Belgian authorities appear powerless in dealing with the group.”

Samidoun is not the only designated terrorist organization operating in Belgium.

In February 2024, Belgian Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt confirmed that the Hamas terror organization operates in Belgium.

“So far, we know that Hamas is active in Belgium through various companies. The activities (...) focus on lobbying and fundraising,” the justice minister said.

Most recently, Belgium drew attention when Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter condemned the Hezbollah pager explosions in Lebanon and Syria, as a “terrorist attack.”

“I strongly condemn the massive terror attack in Lebanon and Syria, which injured thousands of people. A brutal escalation of violence. Silence is not an option. An international investigation is called for. The bloodshed must end,” she posted on 𝕏.
