Controversial UN official Albanese references Holocaust while supporting anti-Israel conspiracy theorist

The UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, is facing backlash after citing the Holocaust while expressing her support for British anti-Israel academic David Miller.

“Never again. We, the generation who grew up with a sense of deceit, guilt, and responsibility for the ignorant and coward[ly] ancestors of ours who made the Holocaust happen, we have a role to play today,” Albanese wrote in her now-deleted 𝕏 post on Saturday. “I stand with justice, against racism, against apartheid, and with Professor Miller,” she added.

In 2021, Miller, who also produces media content for the Iranian regime, was dismissed from the University of Bristol in England for his anti-Israel and anti-Jewish remarks. He argued that the decision was “unfair” and claimed that anti-Zionist beliefs are protected under the country’s anti-discrimination laws.

The Jewish Chronicle and The Guardian reported at the time that Miller had demonized the Jewish state as “the enemy of world peace.” He also alleged that Israel seeks to “impose [its] will all over the world,” a statement often associated with antisemitic stereotypes suggesting disproportionate influence in global affairs.

“The university wants to overturn this,” Miller claimed, adding, “If we win at the Employment Appeal Tribunal, we’ll strengthen this precedent, which is invaluable and necessary for pro-Palestinian campaigners across Britain and beyond.”

On Monday, the Board of Deputies of British Jews condemned Albanese for supporting Miller, calling him a “notorious conspiracy theorist and employee of the Iranian regime’s Press TV.”

“We call on our government to openly request Ms. Albanese’s dismissal; her ongoing association with the UN is a disgrace to the entire organization,” the Board stated.

Media watchdog HonestReporting criticized Albanese for referencing the Holocaust inappropriately and supporting “an extremist and an antisemite who regularly spews Jew-hate.”

Albanese was appointed as UN special rapporteur in May 2022. Her tenure has been marked by critical perspectives on Israeli policies and antisemitic remarks.

In October, Albanese falsely equated Israel’s military operations against the terrorist organization Hamas with Nazi Germany’s crimes against humanity during the Holocaust and the Second World War.

“Our collective obliviousness to what led, 100 years ago, to the Third Reich's expansionism and the genocide of people not in conformity with the "pure race" is asinine. And it is leading to the commission of yet another genocide, yet another regional war and potentially yet another global one,” Albanese stated, accusing Israel of “genocide.”

The World Jewish Congress (WJC) strongly condemned Albanese's statement.

“The constant statements made by [Albanese] comparing Israel to Nazi Germany are not only deeply offensive, but a gross distortion of history,” the WJC stated in a post on 𝕏.

Last February, Albanese blasted French President Emmanuel Macron after he described Hamas' invasion and mass terror attack on Oct. 7, 2023, as “the largest antisemitic massacre of our century.”

“The ‘greatest antisemitic massacre of our century’? No, Mr. @EmmanuelMacron. The victims of 7/10 were not killed because of their Judaism, but in response to Israel’s oppression. France & the international community did nothing to prevent it. My respects to the victims,” Albanese wrote on 𝕏.

Hamas terrorists killed 1,200 Israelis and abducted 251 people into the Gaza Strip on the morning of Oct. 7, 2023. The majority of the victims were civilians, including women, children and Holocaust survivors.
