Biden administration asks for clarification of Netanyahu's statement, 'Israel will continue security control in the Gaza Strip'
The U.S. administration has asked for clarification from Israel regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement that "Israel will continue security control in the Gaza Strip."
Netanyahu has repeated this statement several times in recent days, including at a press conference with foreign media and also in a meeting with heads of municipal councils.
In the program "This Morning" with Aryeh Golan on Reshet Bet, it was reported today (Sunday) that the Biden administration contacted Israeli officials and asked to understand what Netanyahu meant. They asked, "What is the intention, and what does this mean, 'Security control' over time?"
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken this week indicated that the objective for the day after the victory over Hamas is Palestinian Authority control over Gaza and the West Bank. Therefore, the administration is trying to understand what Netanyahu meant by his statement.
In his statement at a press conference last night, Netanyahu referred to the issue of "the day after" the war in the Gaza Strip and said that "we will not agree to give up security control in Gaza under any circumstances."
"The day after," Netanyahu added, "Gaza will be demilitarized and there will no longer be a threat from the strip to Israel."
Regarding the possibility of establishing Israeli settlements in Gaza, the prime minister said that he "doesn't think it is a realistic goal."
