At least 8 Israelis wounded amid 250 Hezbollah rockets: Non-stop rocket attacks rain on northern, central Israel

Rocket alarm sirens sounded five times in central Israel on Sunday, while northern Israel faced near-constant attacks throughout the day during one of the most intense periods of Hezbollah aggression in recent months.

At least eight Israelis suffered injuries as a result of the rocket attacks, and several houses and buildings were damaged by direct rocket explosions and shrapnel impacts after the Hezbollah terror group launched over 250 rockets and several more drones, triggering hundreds of separate warning sirens.

If attacks on Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon are included, the total number of rockets fired rises to around 340, according to Israel's Channel 12 News.

Several Israeli media outlets cited a recent speech made by Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, declaring that Tel Aviv would suffer the same fate as Beirut, where the IDF has continuously struck Hezbollah’s weapon depots, production facilities and command centers in recent days.

According to Ynet News, Sunday saw the most alarm sirens this month so far. Buildings were damaged in the northern cities of Haifa, Nahariya, Ma’a lot Tarshiha, Kiryat Shmona and Metula. There were also sirens activated in Petah Tikva and Moshav Renatiya in central Israel, which was targeted five times.

"Hezbollah was planning this escalation in rocket attacks that occurred today and messaging about it especially after Hezbollah spokesperson Mohammed Afif was killed last week," wrote Seth Frantzman from the Foundation for Freedom of Democracies.

"It’s possible that the bad weather, low cloud cover, fog and rain, gave Hezbollah a window to escalate and feel more confident rolling out more long range rocket launchers than normal. This is one of the first bad weather days over Israel and Lebanon as fall becomes winter," he added.

Amid the sharp increase in Hezbollah’s rocket attacks, former IDF Chief Benny Gantz, a former War Cabinet member and current leader of the National Unity party, demanded that the government escalate its strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon accordingly.

“The Lebanese government gives Hezbollah a free hand. The time has come to act strongly against its assets,” Gantz wrote on 𝕏.

Israel has been concentrating its attacks on Hezbollah targets only and consciously decided not to strike civilian targets that also serve the terror group’s war effort, such as electricity plants or bridges.

The IDF conducted multiple airstrikes on Sunday, including one that targeted and destroyed a rocket launcher used in an earlier attack on Haifa.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) also continued to destroy Hezbollah headquarters and command centers in the Dahiyeh district, the terror group's stronghold in southern Beirut.

In the morning, a Hezbollah rocket penetrated Israel's aerial defenses and exploded in a residential area in Petah Tikva, moderately wounding one person and lightly wounding four others. Numerous houses and vehicles suffered significant damage.

Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg told Ynet News: “There was a rocket impact here, in the area of a residential neighborhood. Fortunately, it did not fall on a house, but in an open area between houses, and as a result, there was damage to the surrounding houses.”

A factory was hit in Ma’alot Tarshiha, with shrapnel lightly wounding a woman in her 50s.

The mayor of Metula, David Azoulay, reported extensive damage to his town, which is Israel’s northernmost community, situated in the Galilee panhandle.

He said that “eight volleys [of rockets] were launched this morning that caused extensive damage to buildings in the community. There are no casualties, but there is a lot of property damage.”

In the area of Migdal and Ginosar on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, an alarm siren caught schoolchildren by surprise as they were about to return home on their school buses, causing some to panic.

“Sirens sounded across most of the country as people started their day rushing to shelters instead of school or work,” said IDF International Spokesman Lt.-Col. Nadav Shoshani.

“Some didn’t know if their homes would still be standing when they returned. Some had nowhere to return to. In the city of Petah Tikvah in central Israel, there was a direct hit on a neighborhood, leaving houses in flames and ruins. This footage shows the destruction Hezbollah aims to cause indiscriminately, targeting civilians. No country would tolerate this aggression. The IDF will continue to defend our civilians and respond to these attacks,” Shoshani wrote on 𝕏.
