Actress Noa Tishby slams Hollywood celebrities for anti-Israel political statements during Oscars
Israeli-born actress and producer Noa Tishby condemned the display of antisemitism at this year’s Oscars gala at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, CA.
"Tonight’s Oscars was a subtle and overt display of Jew-hatred," Tishby stated, referring to the one-sided criticism of the Jewish state and complete disregard for the 134 Israeli hostages still being held by the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Hollywood celebrities, Ramy Youssef, Mark Ruffalo, Ava DuVernay, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas all wore red pins distributed by a group that calls itself, 'Artists4Ceasefire."
The Israeli film artist argued that some celebrities embraced a virulent anti-Israeli narrative that questions the Jewish state’s right to defend itself against the Hamas terror organization in Gaza.
"And that’s the point: if you’re calling for a ceasefire without calling for the release of the hostages, you are promoting Hamas’s agenda by questioning Israel's right to self-defense," she wrote on 𝕏.
Youssef, who is of Egyptian descent, claimed that his ceasefire pin represents "justice for the Palestinian people."
"This is a universal message of 'just stop killing children,” Youssef argued, disregarding the violent deaths of 1,200 Israelis, including children, women and elderly, at the hands of Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7.
Some prominent Jews have joined the attack on Israel by openly voicing their criticism of the war against Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
The British Jewish Jonathan Glazer who won this year's Best International Feature award for his movie, "The Zone of Interest," claimed that Israeli “occupation” had led to “dehumanization” in the Middle East. He appeared to blame the Jewish state for the ongoing war that was initiated by Hamas on Oct. 7.
“Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people, whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza,” Glazer stated.
Several Israeli and international pundits condemned Glazer’s controversial remarks.
Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Minister Amichai Chikli blasted Glazer, calling him the "next useful idiot who stuck a knife in the back of his people and in the backs of women who were raped and then shot in the head afterwards ... in children who were slaughtered in their beds ... in entire families who were burned alive."
Former Israeli UN Ambassador and current Knesset Member Danny Danon also denounced Glazer’s remarks at the Oscars.
"This is an important film. It's a shame that a Jewish director took advantage of the stage that he was given to make antisemitic remarks comparing the Holocaust to the war of no-choice that was forced upon us. This is not new – during the Holocaust, also there were Jews who acted against the Jewish people," Danon said.
The annual Oscar Awards ceremony is one of the most prestigious events in the entertainment industry, typically attracting a large international audience.
